Powering the Voyager XII is a 1196cc liquid-cooled four cylinder engine. The narrow design of the inline four helps decrease overall width, while the engine's mass is concentrated forward to add to the Voyager XII's handling agility and rider comfort. Dual overhead cams actuate four valves per cylinder, each with hydraulic lash adjusters to reduce valve operation noise and eliminate maintenance. An automatic cam chain tensioner also reduces maintenance and keeps valve timing spot on. Dual counterbalancers virtually eliminate engine vibration for increased rider comfort.

While there are plenty of technological advances, the Vulcan 1500 Nomad retains a classic look. That look centers around its big 1470cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine. Fins on the four-valve cylinder heads are shaped to accommodate large connecting ducts from the air filter. The ducts feed clean air to the carburetor featuring the Kawasaki Throttle Responsive Ignition Control (K-TRIC) system. This throttle position sensor is linked to the ignition system and alters ignition timing for all throttle settings for excellent engine response.

The Kawasaki Concours motorcycle combines the traits of two motorcycles in the Kawasaki line-up, the Ninja® ZX-11 sportbike and Voyager® XII touring machine, melding the comfort and weather protection of a touring motorcycle with the performance, agility and styling of a Kawasaki NINJA sportbike into one of the most popular sport-touring machines on the market.

A 997cc liquid-cooled four-cylinder engine produces strong power for the Concours. Dual overhead cams actuate four valves in each compact combustion chamber. The compact design allows for an increased compression ratio without detonation on today's pump gasoline.

At the heart of this mid-sized Vulcan cruiser is a 749cc V-twin engine brimming with modern specs to help produce abundant power with low maintenance while assuring long-term reliability. Four valves per cylinder help each compact combustion chamber breathe easier for more power at high rpm. Hydraulic lash adjusters automatically keep the valves at the optimum adjustment and help eliminate valve noise. A dual stage silent cam chain runs quietly and allows the cylinder heads to be more compact while an automatic cam chain tensioner keeps cam timing on the mark and adds greater reliability.
